Families and friends, numbering close to 120, came from as far as Germany for the annual end of year Kipling Day, which took place in hot June weather on Lower Pavilion and Lower Wood. The Fathers took on the Sons in the traditional cricket match (and won!), while there were big games of football and plenty of hanging out and boundary talk too. BBQ's were lit and we were able to welcome some of the boys who will begin their life in Kipling in September. After the fun finished, many trooped back to Kipling to watch a certain World Cup game against a certain European opposition. Kipling Day was more fun than that... |

Kipling golfers, James McConachie and Sam Fitzell, won the House Golf competition this month, in a convincing display against some of the school's best players. Playing in a handicap tournament at Hanbury Manor, James and Sam outscored their more-fancied opponents. The victory was all the more pleasing as Sam and James are only in the Middles, whilst several other players were Sixth Formers. |

For the third year in a row, Kipling has a member of the school's Senior Prefect team. In succession to Marcus Farnfield (Head of School) and Oliver Phillpott (Second Head), Tom Wigglesworth's appointment as Second Head of School was announced at Speech Day. Head of House for 2010-2011 is Charlie Thompson. Charlie is an IB student, music scholar and performer - in all sorts of ways! Charlie's family enjoy a long Kipling association, with both father and grandfather among the house's old boys. Tassilo Schmitz, who joined the Sixth Form this year, has also been appointed a College Prefect, with responsbilities in the Lower School. |

No fewer than eight Kipling boys have been awarded Speech Day prizes, with College Prefects Greg Carton and Jonny Smith and Second Head of School Oliver Phillpott, gaining seven prizes between them!
While Salem Binladen and Albert King have been awarded science and maths prizes, Sam Fitzell has won a modern languages prize for the fourth successive year. Sixth Former Tom Blanchard has a Classics Award, while Phillip Haberlach has been awarded an important prize for his IB work.
The boys will receive their awards from the Guest of Honour, Field Marshal Sir John Chapple, himself an old boy of Kipling. 'We are delighted for Speech Day to be something of a family affair this year,' says Housemaster Russell Matcham.
